JULIA NORINDER ON THE TOPLIST OF FUTURE WOMEN LEADERS

When the leader organization Ledarna and the career network Shortcut on May 12 2009 selected Sweden’s future women leaders Julia Norinder, CEO of the Gothenburg based management consultancy firm Preera, was ranked on second place. Ranked in first place was Ingrid Larsby Arvered, Global Purchasing Director at Sandviken Materials Technology. The list contains 75 leaders and role models within Swedish industry, public sector, culture, non-profit organizations and politics.

Julia Norinder, 33 years, is since 2008 CEO of the management consultancy firm Preera. She started her career as a management consultant at Preera in 1998. During 2004-2005 she took a leave of absence from Preera to work with private sector development within the UN-system in West Africa. When Julia returned to Gothenburg she became Consultancy Director at Preera and since then the company has doubled their turnover.

Julia’s leadership is characterized by dialogue, participation and understanding;

- My basic outlook is that people are vise and driven by engagement as well as involvement in the process of developing organizations. This philosophy I bring with me both while developing Preera but also in to create transformation at our customers.

Another issue that drives Julia in her work at Preera is equality. The management consultancy business is from tradition very dominated by men, only 30 percent of people working as management consultants are women. At top positions the proportion of women is even lower.

- I´m driven by a will to show that it is possible to change. Every year the management consultancy industry loses talented women that do not feel comfortable with the traditional industry culture. Preera has developed a culture where both men and women have the possibility to balance their life and still have a challenging and interesting work. This has helped the company to create an equal workplace but also to improve the quality of the work. Today Preera has approximately 40 co-workers and half of them are women.

To be nominated to the distinction Future Women Leaders the person should work as a director or leader within industry, public sector, culture, non-profit organizations or politics. The nominees are judged from their results, personal characteristics and their potential for further development.

Earlier this year Preera was appointed one of Sweden’s tenth best management consultancy firms by the business newspaper ”Veckans Affärer”
